courtesy of Gulf GreyhoundIt is that time of year again, the $50,000 Texas Round Up Sprint Championship begins in one week, and Gulf Greyhound Park’s hottest greyhound, Gable Eddie, is peaking at the right time. The 2010 win leader has won three consecutive races making the statement to the rest of the Texas-bred competitors, `catch me if you can`.
As Gable Eddie headed to the starting box on Wednesday, April 28, Gable Eddie faced the difficult challenge of breaking from the dreaded #6 post position and this would also be his first race back after suffering a minor tail injury two weeks prior to this start. Gable Eddie showed his readiness by winning a schooling race in convincing fashion, and as a result, the fans sent Gable Eddie off as the 1/5 betting favorite. All doubts were quickly extinguished as with a flash of the yellow #6 blanket, Gable Eddie rushed to the early lead and extended to an impressive
eight-length victory in a time of 29.79 seconds.
In Gable Eddie’s next start on Sunday, May 2, Gable Eddie faced another top grade AA field breaking from the outside #8 post position. The lid popped open and once again, Gable Eddie roared out to an early lead of three lengths around the first turn. As history shows, Gable Eddie has never been caught when leading and this day would be no different as the final margin of victory would be 7 ½ lengths in a time of 30.13 seconds.
On Friday night, May 7, Gable Eddie drew the #3 post position, one that has been troublesome in the past. There was an early challenge for the lead from his rivals but Gable Eddie hugged the rail around the first turn and quickly took advantage of the race heading down the backstretch. Gable Eddie pulled away by four lengths to his 15th win out of 22 starts this year pleasing his fans as the heavy 1/5 odds-on favorite.
Congratulations to trainer Cheryl Warrender from Gable Gulf Kennel, LLC and Gable Eddie for a great week of racing as they head into stakes competition next week.
