Since November of 2009, this week’s Greyhound of the Week, BOW Fine Tune, raced exclusively over the 660-yard course here at Gulf Greyhound Park. In fact, BOW Fine Tune has remained in top grade AA over the past five months racing against some of the finest distance racers the track has to offer. After suffering a minor setback running into some trouble and having to re-qualify, trainer Enrique Macias moved BOW Fine Tune over to the 550-yard course and she has responded impressively winning her last two efforts to earn this week’s honor.
On Saturday afternoon June 26, BOW Fine Tune headed to the starting box ready to try again coming off an unsuccessful try in her prior race over the 550-yard course. Breaking from the #3 post position, BOW Fine Tune came out well sitting in the third position chasing the two race leaders, DLT Martial Law and CTW Basic Skills. As the field headed for home, BOW Fine Tune accelerated down the stretch to catch the frontrunners by a head in a nice time of 30.13 seconds.
BOW Fine Tune’s next start on Thursday evening July 8 was against a strong field including stakes competitors C Ya Tom Collins, Cry Gimmick and one of GGP’s fastest greyhounds, Rough Hustle. On this occasion, BOW Fine Tune popped out of the 550-yard starting box on top from the #7 post position and took a two-length advantage around the first turn. As the race progressed, Rough Hustle made his move attempting to take the lead around the far turn but BOW Fine Tune said `no way` and shut the door turning back the challenge and held on by a length and a half in a time of 30.21 seconds returning a nice price at odds of 11 to 1.
Congratulations to trainer Enrique Macias from Premier Enterprises and to BOW Fine Tune (Trent Lee – BOW Breathless) for returning back to top form and winning two exciting races in a row.
