Gulf's Greyhound of the Week - 8/15/2010

This week’s featured greyhound, C Ya Salty Dog, has experienced a career resembling a roller coaster over the past year and a half. When C Ya Salty Dog started in January 2009, the outlook was very positive as it only took nine starts to reach top grade AA. After winning two top grade races, C Ya Salty Dog ran into some problems sidelining the pup for three months. Since that initial time off, C Ya Salty Dog has experienced further bumps in the road off and on and transferred to the LaRosa Enterprises Kennel in June of this year. After this recent transition, C Ya Salty Dog has been on a roll finishing either first or second in his last six grade AA outings including winning the last two times out to earn this week’s honor as Greyhound of the Week.

On Saturday afternoon August 7, C Ya Salty Dog faced a difficult field loaded with top grade winners including Soi, Nina’s Wagster, BOW Boot Leg and DLT Fire Water plus drew an unfavorable #6 post position. Despite all of this, the fans bet down C Ya Salty Dog as the race time favorite and would not disappoint as he rushed to the lead around the first turn and never looked back winning by six lengths in a sizzling time of 29.74 seconds.

C Ya Salty Dog would face the next the challenge in the eighth race on August 12 in front of a huge crowd enjoying the 50-cent specials that Gulf Greyhound Park offers every Thursday evening. Drawing the outside #8 post position, C Ya Salty Dog was again sent off as the race favorite at 6/5 against a top grade field loaded with early box speed. C Ya Salty Dog quickly broke to the lead and assumed his favorable position of running at the lead of the pack on the rail. As the race progressed, C Ya Salty Dog continued to lengthen his advantage over his rivals and finished eight lengths in front with another impressive time of 29.87 seconds.

This now makes five wins out of 14 starts this year but now possesses 29 out of 35 in the money finishes including 14 victories for the 71-pound athlete out of C Ya Costa Maya – San Tan Cool One. Congratulations to trainer Katherine Burd, owners Rodrick Neal and David Arnold, and of course C Ya Salty Dog for this week’s accomplishments.
