Update on the Tucson Sprint Race

We were looking for Savvy Loma to continue his win streak and make it 8 in a row or for Bella Jade to finally get a current win against him. But a dog named CDC Sammy stopped Savvy Loma's win streak at Tucson last night - CDC paid $18.40, Savvy's rival Bella Jade came in 2nd again.

FlupAsCrackerBox running at Soutland

Flupascrackerbox wins 91st. career race breaking the all time win record at Southland. That makes it  5 IN A ROW for FLUPASCRACKERBOX! He is on our WATCH LIST!

Tucson Sprinters Highlight Card

from old timer Bill Bristol

Tonight at the Tucson Greyhound Park the sprinters, and I mean the ones who only race around one turn and clock in at 17sec or so, are the main draw at the desert oval. Racing  together over the 316 yard distance Savvy Loma and Bella Jade have waged quite a duel  these past few weeks and tonight’s rematch has all the makings of another showdown at the OK Corral. While this rivalry has been totally one sided with Savvy Loma winning the last seven meetings and Bella Jade setting for the place money in each of those races, the worm may be ready to turn tonight.

Tucson Sets Stakes Schedule

by TrackData's Staff Writers
There is more than the weather heating up in the desert as evidenced by the recently released stakes schedule for the Tucson Greyhound Park. Brian Duncan, the Director of Racing, has put together an agenda for the old Tucson Track that promises to match the sizzling summer heat with some red hot greyhound racing of their own. First up is the  $10,000 INTERNATIONAL GOLD CUP, a two track competition, against the Caliente track with the final to be raced on May 16th over the Caliente oval in Tijuana, Mexico.

Recap of the Dubuque Inaugural

courtesy of Dubuque Greyhound Park

PFANNYS TINY TIM from the Hardison-Rader Kennel and trained by Brian Webb had late power to propel him to victory in the 2010 $2000 Dubuque Inaugural Stakes on Opening Day of Live Greyhound Racing at Dubuque Greyhound Park at Mystique on Saturday April 24th.  This race included the winner of last years Iowa Breeders Cup, a two time Greyhound of the year winner, last years Dubuque Inaugural winner, the Maiden Debut winner and the $45,000 Future Star Stakes winner.

The race started with GO BON HAWK TALK from the Sweetcorn City Kennel breaking out first followed by PFANNYS TINY TIM and in third spot was last years Iowa Breeders Cup winner HILCO VISION from the Oxbow-Trow Kennel.  These three greyhounds lead the rest down the back stretch with HEAD EM EAST from the Copper Kettle Kennel back in 5th spot coming fast.  At the top of them home stretch PFANNYS TINY TIM got out front and ran to a 2 1/2 length win.  HEAD EM EAST came on strong to take 2nd, while HILCO VISION takes third and the early leader GO BON HAWK TALK took 4th.  On a wet track on the 5/16th of a mile course the winning time was 30.88.

Dubuque OPENS with a Pair of Stakes Races

by Jim Smith
In the year 1778 after much exploration Julien Dubuque settled at a location on the upper Mississippi River and started a lead mining operation. Soon a town grew up around Julien’s settlement and the town became known as Dubuque. Today Dubuque, Iowa is  home to the Dubuque Greyhound Park and Casino. While the casino commands attention year round the greyhounds take center stage on Saturday April 24th with the opening of the summer greyhound season.

Dubuque inaugural will be exciting

Live Greyhound racing begins saturday April 24th.  You won't want to miss the 2010 $2000 Dubuque Inaugural Stakes in the 12th race.  We have some exciting Greyhounds to race in this Stakes A race.  Here are the participating Greyhounds and the starting box they will use.

GO BON HAWK TALK from the Sweetcorn City Kennel has the #1 box.  He ran 25 races in 2009 and was in the money 19 times.  In the #2 starting box will be DEALIEST CATCH from the Bartley-Seastrom Kennel who won the 2009 $45,000 Future Star Stakes.

Who does Flying Coal City call Family?

by Renie Hippler and Jim Smith
After the scintillating Distance Classic at Drby Lane in which TMC’s Remedy, whom we spotlighted last week, nailed Flying Coal City at the wire to retain his distance crown we decided to check on Coal City’s family to see if this was indeed a family affair. Sure enough the breeding of Kiowa Sweet Trey and Flying Crestline has produced a large litter of talented speedsters led by big brother Flying Coal City, but not to be overlooked are several of his littermates who are also making names for themselves.

Classic Champ TMC's Remedy's Family

After TMC’s Remedy was able to defend his Distance Classic Championship at Derby Lane recently we decided to check in on the rest of his family to see what they were up to.
Sister TMC’s Anaconda has had a solid career on the Miami circuit racing at the longer 660 distance, just like her brother, and holding her own against top competition.

A Look Back - Last year's Bob Balfe Champ

by  Renie Hippler and Jim Smith

While contemplating the upcoming running of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s annual puppy stakes an old computer programming ditty came to mind. In computer talk it has often been said that “to move forward you must back up”. That being the case we thought it would serve us well to back up and take a look at the results of the 2009 edition of the Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes and see what we can learn from it. Last year’s winner was Atascocita Edith from the breeding of Atascocita Leroy - Atascocita Flame.

All American 2010 Contenders

as seen by TrackData Systems
With the 1st Quarter of 2010 under our belts we were tempted to take a look at our 2010 All American Team Contenders. A little background and clarity - TrackData is tracking the first four finishers in every stakes racel. To date there have been 17 - including last Saturday's $100,000 Distance Classic run at Derby Lane.

We by no means are saying that only dogs entered in stakes races are worthy of following or are contenders for the team. If anyone would like us to add a dog to our list we are more than willing. Or if by chance you have created a list of your own and you are open to a little friendly competition!

Having said that here goes with the 8 stand outs so far:

A Classic Indeed

from old timer Bill Bristol

Seldom does a sporting event or in this case a greyhound race ever live up to the pre event hype. However the Derby Lane Distance Classic that was run on Saturday night delivered all that was promised and more.

Billed as a two Dog race between this year’s sprint champion, Flying Coal City and the defending distance champ TMC’s Remedy, the race turned out to be exactly as advertised. The crowd bet the race as if it were a two dog matchup by backing the Coal City-Remedy quiniela as the heavy favorite at just 2-1 and the greyhounds obliged by quickly turning the race into a match race

from old Timer Bill Bristol
The field is complete for the 51st running of the annual Distance Classic at Derby Lane in St Petersburg, FL, to be contested over the 660 yard classic derby distance. Post positions have yet to be determined but many in the greyhound community are ready to crown Flying Coal City the Distance Classic winner before the race is even run on Saturday Night.

Saturday night at Tristate Greyhound Park the $35,000 Owners and Breeders Championship was held and  Tri-Point Racing Kennel had all the best of it with their entry of Old Prospector. Right from the get go the Old Prospector found the race to his liking and led from box to wire in an impressive time of 30.48. Returning a win mutuel of 13.60 "The Prospector"  returned gold to all those that had faith. The betting favorite, Jax Marcus rallied strongly to run second at odds of 1.10.
