NGA News - Orange Park Kennel Club weekend update

Friday - 4/15/2011

Great races from a grade racetrack, the Orange Park Kennel Club, this weekend. Loads of talent are flowing through our feature races, and even though they are not all grade A events, even the lesser talented greyhounds can still have an advantage against their respective fields. Look for the spot plays and load up, it could be an easy way to take home some extra cash!

On Friday evening we will look at the 3rd, 7th, 10th, 11th, and 15th races on the card.

The 3rd race in a C 550 race where the inside part of the racetrack looks like the place to be. The best breaker sits in the one box and that might just be the reason that Cletic Pup wins back to back efforts. Closing up late should be his next door neighbors Gs Storey and Kiowa Mon Manny, and let's not forget about Rudeness either. Can he hold on and take the checkered flag at the finish, or will one of the chasers slip by for the win? We will find out soon enough! (1-3-2-6)

The 7th race is an A 550 race featuring the red hot Locall Torino. This closer has found a way to break and that has been bad news for the last two fields that have had to face him. He has put up dominate wins in back to back efforts and looks to get it done again tonight for the hat-trick. It will be a daunting task though as Hs Babe is back and running on all cylinders. Both will have to worry late about the closers Switzler Takeoff, and the posted up La's Reba. (5-3-6-1)

It's Tee Time in the 10th race, an A 550 effort, as Gs Tee Up looks to continue his win streak. He really is driving the ball well right now with back to back wins, and three in his last 4 efforts. The difference for him has been the break and when he is out fast, he is really tough to take down. He will be challenged early and late though. Braska Happy gets an ideal one box to start from, and should prompt the pace, as Vanessa Rousso and Eds Joy of Pride join the party late. (3-1-7-4)

In race 11, an A 550 effort, the one to beat is Where's Donna. Donna was on quite a win streak, but she saw it snapped two races back. She hasn't been breaking as well as she did before and she needs to find a way to return to that form. The speedy one is next to her and that alone could give her someone to chase early on. She is not short late and if she wants to run, this race is hers to lose. Making her work early will be Boc's Wilmawazoo, making her work throughout will be Sir Sinclair, and making her work late will be 2010 All-American Eds Budby. (6-7-4-5)

Tough to pick against Kelsos Spiffy in race 15, an A 550 event, as she has posted up back to back romps. The light is on for her now and when she is streaking, she might just be the best greyhound at the racetrack. Tonight she gets extra room early as Kiowa Mc Gee will head to the rail on the way to the turn and that will be just enough to get him up at the wire for her 3rd win in a row. She will have to probably need to catch Orion Lee to get it done, but if she is right minded, no problem. (8-3-7-4)

Saturday - 4/16/2011

Up next will be Saturday matinee were we will look at the 2nd, 7th, 11th, 13th, and 15th races.

The 2nd race is a C 550 event and you have to love the new addition in this one. Kl Emerald City is loving the new racetrack and has put up back to back impressive efforts. I know she only has one start here, but it was an big time determined win in a speedy grade D time. From a similar post, expect a similar effort today. Pushing the pace throughout will be Lillys Love Story and Pms Vic Tom and if each decide to hit the lid, either might have a chance to steal away the win. With all this early speed, we also have to consider Flyin Ryan as he will be the stretch rusher that all short greyhound fear in the deep stretch. (3-2-1-6)

The 7th race on the card is a B 550 start that has a little bit of the old mixed in with a little bit of the new. Gs Uncle Harry has had a couple of rough starts in a row, and even though he might prefer the outside, he should get a cleaner trip in this effort. He has all the tools to win this race, but he is in tough and will really need to come out running. Why? Veteran On The Fly in the 1 box! This greyhound can close with the best of them over 550 and loves the rail! She really should be the one to beat, but I just gotta pull for the pup. If they lock up early, this could be a battle royal to the wire. (3-1-4-5)

The 11th race on the car is an A 550 trip that features a couple of recent stakes runners from the Lester Raines Kennel. Hs Butane was the leader in points for the 2011 Jacksonville Sprint Classic and Uss Fine Touch was the only greyhound in the finals to win 3 qualifying races. No other stakes finalists in this race, so the edge has to do to this duo. With conflicting styles, early vs. late speed, this could turn into quite a chess match as they approach the finish line. Who wins out? Does the speed, Fine Touch, hold? Or, will the closer, Butane, get by at the wire. (1-8-5-4)

Race 13 is a D 550 race that features one of the best looking pups we have at the racetrack now, Gs Nike! Nike is from a fantastic litter that have all been tearing up the racetrack in very few starts! Gs Uncle Harry is one, mentioned above, but this little girl might just be even better than all of them. On the lead no one is going to come close to her, but from off the pace she is just as tough. Her maiden win was unbelievable. She put on a stretch move that I don't know if I have ever seen before. She has all the right gears, she just needs some time to grow up and stop running so green. If she comes to run, this race is already over. (7-8-3-1)

Race 15 is a B 550 race where the posted up grade droppers will have a lot to say! Miami On Fire, Penrose Jovial, and Magic Handball all are moving down to grade B in this effort and each of them get to start out this race from an advantageous post position. Last time out from the 8 box in grade A, Miami, posted up a strong win! Advantage him, but he will not be alone. The outside is kind to Jovial too, and from the rail post, Magic Handball should see the early lead in this effort. At the wire there could be a herd of greyhounds looking for the win! (8-7-1-3)

Saturday - 4/16/2011

Moving on to Saturday evening where we will peek at the 4th, 7th, 9th, 11th, and 15th races.

The 4th race is a B 550 trip where several greyhounds are looking for a bit of redemption. Solid dropper and stakes veteran Kiowa Vanessa gets a great post and has everything going for her in this race. All she has to do is show up at the start and she should be able to wire the field on the front end, but not so fast my friend. Rs Bailys Best is searching for the break that saw her win her first 3 races for fun. Kane's Commanche will be trying to come on late and challenge, along with, Craigie Ironlad. If anyone of them is too close, too soon, Vanessa might be stuck in grade B just a little bit longer. (2-3-1-5)

The 7th race is an A 550 race that could be quite crowded on the front end. Sunsands Dream has found her break again and in turn she has won back to back races. She is really rushing hard to the front early on, but so is For The Fun. Fun is a little phony if she is not closer early on, but from the 1 box and off a big of rest, she should be fueled up and ready to do some launching tonight. If these two side by side runners both decide that tonight is the night, it could get heated early and often in this effort. Both better be wary of the closers that lurk on the outside. Gs Prada and Pat C Kipper could sneak in between them late. (2-1-8-7)

Race 9 is a B 660 race that is poised for the picking for Pj's Favor Tasha. A solid grade drop, this front runner has misplaced her break. Here against a field that she can easily see the lead, she is going to get the front end and run all the way to the finish line for the easy win. She has to beware though as she is in with a tough field of greyhounds. She could get beat by several, if they decide to run, but if she is on her game, she should be the one to beat. (5-8-2-3)

The 11th race is just another opportunity for the resurging Leading Steps to win a grade A 550 races. Since returning she he has been good, really good! His break has returned to him and he is looking stronger and stronger with each and every start. Posted up well on the rail again tonight, he has a great shot at another box to wire win. Lurking though is Mandy of Ruckus! This recent stakes finalist gives her all in every effort, but has to overcome the post in this one. She would rather be more inside, and will have to do her best from the 6 box. She closed on Really Xtreme last time out, so if she is close early, she could get by late for the victory! (2-6-1-3)

Race 15 is an A 660 race that is packed full of punch. Almost any greyhound in this field could win this race if the mood suits them, so you have to look for things that might separate this field early on. How about posts, speed, and red hot running. If those are the criteria, you need to go with Ww's Gucci. New to 660, but not to winning, Gucci is on a roll over the new distance. And talk about fast, 37.34 last time out. All she needs to do is be close early, and she will find a way to win. Two other winners last time out are in the mix too, namely Make U Look and Rc Mini Power. Don't forget about Really Gonnarock either. He has to deal with the 5 box though. (2-8-5-4)

Sunday - 4/17/2011

Concluding the weekend, Sunday matinee's races are the 3rd, 7th, 11th, 14th, and 15th.

The 3rd race is a M 550 race that features a stellar sibling matchup! Another nice litter breaking in for the Willis Kennel, and another nice looking litter for DOMINGO DODGE! Gs Landy and Gs Boyd both have looked great in schooling and how they are going to have to face off again in this race. Last time out Boyd beat Laney, but the start before that Laney posted up a monster win from the same 1 box in 30.78 seconds. Both of these pups can run a ton, so pick your favorite on top, or better yet play a quiniela or Perfecta box, or key them on top of the other strong runner here, Penrose Kourtney. (1-7-5-6)

The 7th race on the card is an A 550 race, and Wild Boy Andy should be the one to beat. He is extremely tough when he is close to the early lead in any race and that is just where he is going to be in this effort. Forget the post, breaking is his key to success. In his last 6 races, 3 wins and 5 quinielas, no to shabby folks, but this will not be a cake walk. Other big early speeders are around, ie Smokin Az Becket, and so are the closers, Gs Grace and Lady Gator. Anyone here has a chance to win, so let's just see what happens. (5-8-4-3)

The 11th race is an A 550 race that is all set up perfectly for Kiowa Adara Art. Art just finished 2nd in the finals of the 2011 Jacksonville Sprint Classic, and is running the best of his career right now. He has been breaking more consistently and in turn he has been running and winning the majority of his races. Here he starts out from his best box, the 8, and should get extra room to rush early on. When he gets to the lead, he is a tough nut to crack, but her has to beat Touch My Hand, Gm's Dale, and Get It Birch, early in order to gain control. It's the outside vs. the inside, time for the duel to start. (8-2-1-3)

Now for the best puppy at the racetrack. Cayenne Bighunk gets another chance to romp in this grade C effort in the 14th race on the card. So far this greyhound has never been behind at any point on the racetrack. All of his wins have been by double digits and one of his schooling victories was by 32 lengths. This greyhound looks unbeatable, but this is the first time he is seeing quality grade droppers. He should be up to the competition though, he has posted grade A times in both of his wins, but he needs to break and steer clear of the 1 dog going wide early. If he comes to run, this race will have a foregone conclusion. (3-8-5-4)

Now for yet another Gs Nike littermate. Gs Emma is the one to beat in the 15th and final race on the card. This grade B effort is packed full of talent, but the 1 box is going to be the key for her in this race. She has the post, the break, and the desire to win and when you put that all together, she gets it done. Challenging her will be stakes veteran Scottish Dreamer and the posted up Lrc Last Dance. Don't forget about Where's Lil Tiny either. This greyhound might just decide to break and put a monkey wrench into everyone's plans in this race. (1-5-8-7)
