The effort pushed L's Zakarack (Boeckenstedt) into the championship race. L's Zakarack had been tied for 11th after the quarterfinals. His seven rivals in the final held form in the semifinals.
Slatex Kayser (Harlan Brothers) went box-to-wire out of the one box to win his semifinal race, beating L's Zakarack by two and a half lengths. Slatex Kayser finished the qualifying rounds as the leading greyhound with a perfect 60 points, winning in all four rounds.
Bluffs Run victory leader P's Gibbs (Petzold) rallied from third in the homestretch to win by a length in his semifinal to finish with 55 points. P's Gibbs, 28-18-2-4, had the best time in the semifinals, 30.43 seconds, for the 5/16-mile course, and finished with 55 points with three wins and a second in the four rounds.
The other semifinal winner was Jet Force (Hardison), who pulled away in the homestretch for a two-length decision. Jet Force, 25-8-6-3, finished with 55 points.
Astarbeyondmagic (River Bluffs) ran third to Slatex Kayser and finished with 48 points after posting wins in the first two rounds.
Slatex Vincent (Harlan Brothers) earned his berth with a win and three seconds for 45 points. The 90-pounder led P's Gibbs in the semifinal until the homestretch.
P's Red Seal (Petzold) had trouble in his semifinal, but overcame an early bump to rally from sixth to finish fourth. The six points gave him 39 and enough for the final.
The final qualifier was Call Me Peculiar (Hardison), who survived a horrid seventh-place finish in the semifinals. A win and a pair of seconds in the earlier rounds gave Call Me Peculiar 37 points for this stakes series, which was enough.
Another seventh place finish proved deadly. Pearls of Wisdom (Plum Creek) came into the semifinals tied for seventh with 33 points. But he broke seventh and never made a move. The two points for the finish left Pearls of Wisdom with 35 points and in ninth place and out of the championship race.
The championship race is set for Saturday, June 18.
