NGA News - Hecht Marathon returns

NGA News -  Flagler Greyhound Track, celebrating its 80th birthday this year, is happy to announce that plans have been made for the return of the Hecht Marathon Championship this fall. The last time the long distance stars had a race to call their own in South Florida was the 2005 running of the 7/16ths Mile Stake, which was won by two-time champion Instant Vintage, who was owned by Tina Williams and raced for the DQ Williams Kennel.

The 2011 running of the Hecht Marathon, with an added $50,000 purse for the Final, will be a completely open event with no entry fee and is an attempt to bring back more distance racing that the local South Florida fans have been clamoring for.

With a $20,000 win purse going to the new Champ, and a minimum of $2,000 for just making the final cut, the top distance greyhounds around the country will once again have a race to call their own this October at Flagler Greyhound Track.
