NGA News - Monaco takes Inaugural at West Flagler Kennel

NGA News -  Slatex Monaco proved that she could either go to the lead or come from off the pace in winning the West Flagler Kennel Club 80th Birthday Inaugural Stakes on Friday June 10.

Sixteen greyhounds began the qualifying with one entry from each of the15 kennels along with Naples-Ft Myers Track Win Leader Slatex Monaco filling out the 16-pup field. The top four from each semifinal advanced to the Championship with Slatex Monaco and Letsgroovetonite coming home on top in their semifinal race with both turning in front running victories.

The Championship set up as an all-out speed burner between both semi winners along with Phils Pedro, Crt Bob and Hollywoodian and World Classic Finalist Blazin Wildfire in the field, and all ready to contest for position going into turn one.

What looked to be a speed race ultimately went to Slatex Monaco as she managed to come from off the pace by storming home from 4th at the top of the stretch and nipping Blazin Wildfire at the wire to capture the $5,000 winner's purse. Rounding out the top four were: Blazin Wildfire, Phils Pedro and Crt Bob.
