NGA News - Post positions challenge Southland Derby favorites

NGA News -       Post positions were drawn earlier this afternoon for both the championship and consolation races for the $55,000 Southland Derby.  Whether it be by drawing playing cards (as was the case for the consolation), or by opening a set of 4 collectible Derby glasses (as was the case for the championship), there were few that drew “prime” locations for either race.

Points co-leaders TB’s Final Stand and Turbo Lennie were the first to draw respectively.  Although TB’s Final Stand has won 11 of his last 14 official races (including winning the Razorback Classic in late May), the #5 post position just may prove to be another obstacle to overcome for this young star.  Or will it?  In four official starts from the #5 post during his career at Southland Park, he has two victories, a second and a third place finish.  None, however, came against a field as tough as the one he will face Friday evening.

Turbo Lennie drew post #2.  The invader from Palm Beach loves the inside and is likely best positioned overall in the entire Championship race field.  In opening round qualifying action for the Derby, he won from that post and claimed another victory from the #1 post just last start in the semi-finals.

The complete post position order for the race is below:
