NGA News - Texas Roundup in full swing

NGA News -  Trainer Cindy Unrein had the troops ready for stakes competition Friday evening June 24 for the first round of the $50,000 TGA Texas Round Up Sprint Championship scoring two victories and one second place finish out of the four heats.

KB’s Lights Out provided the most exciting finish of the evening in race #5 coming from behind to catch DLT Fire Water of Lingle Kennel at the wire by a desperate nose.Atascocita Vigor of Libby Racing Kennels finished one length behind in third while kennel mate Nina’s Fire Fly ran into trouble but still managed to finish fourth.

As a sixteen race winner at Palm Beach, Florida invader Turbo Razor showed his skills cruising to a first round victory in box to wire fashion by six ½ lengths. The outcome was quickly put to rest as the “candy-stripes” of the #7 blanket exploded from the 550-yard starting box to post the fastest time of the night with a 30.08 second effort. SakkaraToppsy of Lingle Kennel chased the winner throughout holding off a late bid from race favorite Rough Hustle of D.Q. Williams Kennel to claim the place position.

The prohibitive favorite leading into this stakes event is 2011 wins leader and 550-yardtrack record holder, Cry Homer of LQK Kennels, Inc. It was by no means “easy” as CryHomer had to dig deep for his best effort to catch speedball KB’s Cigar Slam of K-RodKennel in the eighth race winning by one length in 30.09 seconds. JIT Qn Victoria of Bone Man Racing Kennel ran a huge race stalking the leaders to finish in the show position two lengths back.

DLT Armageddon of Lingle Kennel lit up the tote board in the thirteenth race finale leading every step as the longest shot in the field at odds of 12 to 1. This was the first top grade victory for DLT Armageddon since December 5, 2010 going all the way to win by one length. Adding to the high mutuel prices, grade B Mr. Dakota of D.Q. Williams Kennel took advantage of the #1 post position and was in hot pursuit of the winner at odds of 11 to 1. Post time favorite, Riley Jaymes of LQK Kennels, Inc., raced evenly throughout the race finishing three lengths off the pace in third place.

The second round of the $50,000 TGA Texas Round Sprint Championship takes place Wednesday June 29 with a post time of 12:00 p.m.
