Entering the stakes series, the favorite to take home the top prize was Cry Homer of LQK Kennels, Inc. After lowering the 550-yard track record on May 14 to 29.42 seconds and sitting on the top of the wins list, all of the pressure was on Cry Homer. After a hard earned victory in the first round, Cry Homer rose to the challenge once again by flying down the stretch to catch DLT Fire Water of Lingle Kennel in the fastest time of the day at 30.06 seconds sending DLT Fire Water to back to back second place finishes. Future Gulf Greyhound Park Hall of Famer, Rough Hustle of D.Q. Williams Kennel, closed late to claim the show spot over BG Shes My Girl of Currid Racing by a nose.
KB’s Lights Out of K-Rod Kennel showed her skills in the finale by going to the lead quickly this time winning her second consecutive race. In the past, KB’s Lights Out has come from behind to achieve her victories but the “candy stripes” of the #7 blanket ran away with a six-length victory in a time of 30.11 seconds. BWG Steeler of Big Water Kennel chased the winner for the entirety of the race finishing second and Bay Oaks Swagger of Libby Racing Kennels won the show battle over Stogie of D.Q. Williams Kennel.
In earlier action, JIT Qn Victoria of Bone Man Racing Kennel flashed her box speed to quickly take advantage of race #8 on her way to a second round victory. After turning away an early challenge from Mr. Dakota of D.Q. Williams Kennel, JIT Qn Victoria pulled away impressively from the field to win by six lengths. Cry Kaidence of LQK Kennels, Inc. closed ground to finish second while Mr. Dakota settled for the show spot. Race favorite and first round winner, Turbo Razor of K-Rod Kennel, failed to see the front end and faded back to a sixth place finish.
Par Guy of LQK Kennels, Inc. took full advantage of the #1 rail post position rushing to the lead and clinching victory in race #10. Par Guy bounced back off a fifth place finish in the first round holding off his challengers by two lengths to the good. MW’s Sting Towin of D.Q. Williams pressured the leader throughout the race but was outbid for the place spot by a hard charging Atascocita Vigor of Libby Racing Kennels. First round winner, DLT Armageddon of Lingle Kennel, experienced trouble in the first turn eliminating him from contention.
Now that the field has been reduced to 24 Texas Bred greyhounds, the third round of the $50,000 TGA Texas Round Sprint Championship will take place Sunday July 3 with a post time of 1:30 p.m.
