NGA News - Slatex Cadillac Fires On All Cylinders

NGA News -  Owned by Kirk Harlan and racing for the WR Kennel, Slatex Cadillac may have pieced together an obscure mark that has never been matched in greyhound racing history. In just twelve races this year, Slatex Cadillac has managed to set four Season's Best Times at two different tracks over multiple distances.

In 2011, Cadillac set the fastest times of the year at Naples-Ft Myers over both the 550 and the 660 Courses. To show that she wasn't a Florida West Coast fluke, Cadillac headed east and now holds the fastest times of 2011 at Flagler over the 550 and the 647 Courses. And just for added measure, Slatex Cadillac is also the new Track Record Holder for the 647 yard Flagler Course after turning in a blistering 36.45 when she notched a 7 1/2 length victory Tuesday night.

With only twelve starts in 2011, and sporting a record of 12-9-0-0-1, the Cadillac's engine may just be warming up.

NGA News - Thorne's Triple Threat scores big in derby

NGA News -  Roughly one month previous to the $55,000 Southland Derby Championship, kennel owner Robert Thorne looked over the operation along with his wife, trainer Bonnie Thorne. [..] The kennel operation swept three of the five championships in the “Festival of Stakes” last fall and had plenty of young guns bred by Marc Randle to rely on. The Southland Derby would test those young stars as plenty of talent came in to lay stake to the best greyhound on the Arkansas Course.

During the post position draw for both the consolation and championship races on Wednesday, June 29th, there seemed to be very few comfortable with the boxes that they drew for their respective greyhounds. Even for a kennel that had three finalists, initially Robert Thorne was hesitant about where their dogs drew. [read more]

NGA News - Possibility of Gold Cup, Silver Cup at Fall Meet

NGA News -  There's still a possibility that a Gold and Silver Cup could be held this upcoming Fall Meet (Oct. 10-15), but--at least in the case of the Silver Cup--it depends solely on owners making their pups eligible with one-year payments in the next two months.  A minimum of 16 final entries are necessary in order to run either stake, or else it will be canceled.

The Silver Cup is for pups whelped in June, July and August 2010. There are 10 June pups that have already paid the annual payment of $100 per pup. The fate of the stake rests on whether enough pups from July (9 pups from 2 litters) and August (16 pups from 3 litters) are paid up. Payments are due anytime during the month in which the eligible litters turn one year old.
