It has only been two months since Spry Derosa of K-Rod Kennel was featured as the Greyhound of the Week. During the month of February, no other greyhound has been `hotter` than Spry Derosa winning three out of her last four starts to claim the honors once again.
After turning just two years old in November, the 59-pound red female bred from Dodgem by Design – Dancer Drive still has plenty of gas of in the tank and is currently one of the top greyhounds at Gulf Greyhound Park.
Since her three race win streak at the end of December of 2011, Spry Derosa has remained in top grade AA but failed to grasp another elusive victory over the next seven starts during January. The winless streak was finally snapped on February 11 with a box to wire effort and the good times have continued with a second place finish and two more victories. After turning just two years old in November, the 59-pound red female bred from Dodgem by Design – Dancer Drive still has plenty of gas of in the tank and is currently one of the top greyhounds at Gulf Greyhound Park.
On Wednesday afternoon February 22, Spry Derosa gave an outstanding effort to claim the win on that day. During the early stages of the race, Spry Derosa pursued Cecil Deville of D.Q. Williams Kennel but ran into some difficulty entering the backstretch. The wide running style of rival Throwin Down of Lingle Kennel forced Spry Derosa away from her preferred rail running position but still managed to maneuver down to the rail and set her sights on Cecil Deville. With a strong drive down the stretch, Spry Derosa passed the leader on the rail to win by one length at odds of 4/5.
Saturday evening February 25’s finale would be the next opportunity for Spry Derosa to show her skills. As the 550-yard starting box opened, Spry Derosa exploded out on top taking instant command of the contest. After turning away an early challenge from Cecil Deville of D.Q. Williams Kennel, Spry Derosa extended her lead to an eventual winning margin of 5-½ lengths in a time of 29.82 seconds scoring back-to-back wins.
Spry Derosa now holds a 2012 record of 11/3-3-1-3 and a very impressive record of 52/16-8-9-8 as one of the best sprinters on the Texas Gulf Coast. Congratulations go out to owner Charter Kennel, Inc., trainer Cindy Unrein and the star of the show, Spry Derosa, for this latest accomplishment.
