This week’s featured star, Spry Derosa of K-Rod Kennel, returns to the spotlight after earning the Greyhound of the Week honors just a mere three weeks ago. The 59-pound red female bred from Dodgem by Design – Dancer Drive has established herself as one of the top sprinters on the Texas Gulf Coast winning six out of her last nine top grade AA contests for trainer Cindy Unrein and owner Charter Kennel, Inc.
On Wednesday afternoon March 14, Spry Derosa got a second opportunity with Kells Wild Bill of Libby Racing Kennels after the two top grade superstars finished within a nose of each other and Spry Derosa on the losing end. Just as their prior meeting, the two combatants would start next to each other with Spry Derosa in post #7 and Kells Wild Bill in the #8 post. Spry Derosa broke well sporting the lucky `candy-stripes` racing in the second position around the first turn behind leader Gable Raven of Bone Man Racing Kennel. With a strong move around the far turn, Spry Derosa cleared just in front of Gable Raven obtaining her favored rail running spot and pulled away to a two-length victory in a time of 29.98 seconds as the 3/2 race favorite.

St. Patrick’s Day would be the next opportunity for Spry Derosa to show her skills in the featured grade AA tenth race. The post position draw was more favorable this time with the #2 post and another stroke of luck with the #1 DLT Kaylee of Lingle Kennel being scratched. As the 550-yard starting box opened, a battle developed immediately between Spry Derosa and Atascocita Ester of Libby Racing Kennels. These two athletes shadowed each other down the frontstretch and around the first turn with Spry Derosa hugging the rail and Atascocita Ester racing on her preferred outside portion of the racetrack. The ground saving trip for Spry Derosa proved to be a winning one as the margin slowly increased to 2-½ lengths at the finish line in a time of 30.00 seconds over the gallant effort of Atascocita Ester.
The climb up the wins list for 2012 continues for Spry Derosa with a record of 16/6-4-1-4 and impressive career statistics of 57/19-9-9-9. Congratulations once again to owner Charter Kennel, Inc., trainer Cindy Unrein and Spry Derosa for winning both grade AA starts this week and earning top honors.
