Greyhound of the Week
Libby Racing Kennels and Atascocita Racing provide the Greyhound of the Week for the second consecutive week as Atascocita Vito is quickly establishing himself as the best 660-yard competitor at Gulf Greyhound Park. Atascocita Vito has shown versatility by going to the lead or closing from behind in all of his wide running victories.
On Wednesday afternoon September 8, Atascocita Vito drew the perfect #8 post position against a mixed grade field including past distance winners J’s Baby Blue, Blue It and track record holder J’s Aiyssa. Atascocita Vito would emerge from the 660-yard starting box in the middle of the field but quickly accelerated around the turn heading down the frontstretch for the first time taking a one-length advantage. Atascocita Vito would carry this momentum gradually pulling away from his rivals to ultimately win by a margin of seven lengths in a time of 37.59 seconds.
In the 13th race finale Saturday evening September 11, Atascocita Vito would face another top grade mixed field this time drawing the #6 post position. The major threats in this race would be Aspen Golddust, who was on a two race win streak climbing into grade AA, the early speed of Blue It and the last running style of Dr David. Atascocita Vito was sent off as the betting favorite once again for the eleventh consecutive time dating back to July 10. Aspen Golddust jumped out to an early lead and Atascocita Vito would take the wide route once again picking up steam. As the field headed into the backstretch, Atascocita Vito would grab command of the race and pulled away from the field tallying his 13th win in 2010 with a six-length victory in a time of 37.01 seconds.
Atascocita Vito (Dodgem By Design – Atascocita Annie) has compiled a very impressive career over both the 550 and 660-yard distances over his 11-month racing career at the Gulf. Atascocita Vito has paraded to the starting box 51 times and has only missed the paysheet eight times, winning 20 races. After switching back to the 660-yard distance in the middle of August, Atascocita Vito has finished either first or second including winning his last two outings to earn this week’s honor. Libby Racing Kennel’s trainer Frank Falco has Atascocita Vito running red hot and will be difficult to catch now as one of Gulf Greyhound Park’s top superstars on the backside.
