Gulf's Greyhound of the Week - BG Juju

High Star Kennel’s current lone grade AA greyhound, BG Juju, showed this week why he must be considered as one of Gulf Greyhound Park’s elite greyhounds. With back-to-back winning efforts, BG Juju earned the honor as Greyhound of the Week
for the second time this year.
The rail running style of BG Juju would prove to be an asset in the featured tenth race on Saturday afternoon October 23. Drawing a favorable #2 post position, the 69-pound early speedster was trying to repeat the performance given two starts prior as BG Juju won from the same spot in box to wire fashion. As the field headed to the 550-yard starting box, the fans made BG Juju a slight betting favorite over recent winner I Dont Remember. A tandem of Soi and Imageofanangel from D.Q. Williams Kennel pushed for the lead early but BG Juju used the inside post position to his advantage hooking the rail around the first turn to take the advantage. As BG Juju headed down the backstretch, the outcome would not be in question this time because BG Juju is difficult to catch after acquiring the lead. BG Juju breezed home to a three-length victory holding a safe advantage over Cry Parker in a time of 30.54 seconds.
On Thursday evening October 28, a showdown was in order as BG Juju was facing another top grade AA field including last week’s Greyhound of the Week, Nina’s Fire Pen. With very similar front running racing tendencies, BG Juju held a slight advantage drawing the #3 post position while Nina’s Fire Pen would be starting from the #7 and BG Juju was bet down as the 2 to 1 favorite. Once again, another D.Q. Williams Kennel speedball, Ask Me Win, would take the early lead as BG Juju and Nina’s Fire Pen followed closely behind. As the race progressed, BG Juju would slip by the front running Ask Me Win around the far turn and pull away to a 2 ½ length win over Ask Me Win and Nina’s Fire Pen in a fast time of 30.07 seconds.
BG Juju (Flying Penske – Garden Grove), owned by Kenneth Larison, now has an impressive record this year of 12 wins and 13 second place finishes out of 54 starts landing him close to the top of the list of win leaders. Congratulations to trainer Heather Currid from High Star Kennel and of course BG Juju for the recent winning streak.
