NGA News - McAllister wins Derby Lane Kennel race

NGA News -  Derby Lane concluded its racing season on June 30 in an exciting finale for the top spot in the kennel standings.

McAllister Kennel and Patriot jockeyed back and forth during the final week. Patriot kept fans in suspense until the last race before a winner was announced. Patriot trainer Victor Hall tied McAllister when TV Karly won race five. The following race the Barbara McAllister trained Klow Aloe Randy held on for the win and moved back in the lead. Neither scored another win on the card. McAllister’s final race was the 14th where entry Flying Magnify did have the lead for a short time, but settled for show. Patriot had one more entry for the night in the 15th race. Venus Aldridge broke second but early trouble took Patriot’s shot away for the victory as the betting favorite Figs Destry from Red Oak Racing scored the win. Destry broke third and took charge for owner Dick Figurilli of CO to win the final race of the meet. Destry’s win was also Red Oak’s third winner of the night that moved them into fourth place for the meet.

McAllister finished Derby Lane’s meet on top. Of the Barbara McAllister trained athletes who totaled 1,583 starts from Jan. 1 – June 30 there were 288 winners, 243 seconds, 200 thirds and 183 fourth place finishes. McAllister opened the season with a win in the Inaugural with the national champion Flying Coal City. McAllister has several other stakes finalists this meet but only won one of them. McAllister took the kennel title and Flyin Carnoustie (Dragon Fire x Flying Snap On) was top dog winning 25 of 40 starts. Nova kennel’s historic double stakes champion Hi Noon Renegade (Dodgem By Design x Bryan’s Baby) finished second with 23 wins in his 37 starts.

Red Oak Racing concluded the Derby Lane meet in fourth place. "I was laughed at when I first came to Derby Lane last year from Victoryland, AL," said kennel owner Robert Lambert. "I told the Racing Secretary that I was going to do my best to be competitive and I feel that I have done a good job at doing so thus far." Mesa Backstop (CTW Legendary x Back Taxes) was ranked fourth with 17 wins for the Derby Lane meet. The final statistics are available on the Derby Lane website until July 8 when the new season stats will begin.
