NGA News - On Monday, July 4th Dubuque Greyhound Park ran its $45,000 King and Queen Championship. The battle of the sexes began with twenty-four males racing against each other for the top four male positions in the finals and twenty-four females running against each other on the other side of the field for their top four positions.
Over the years at Dubuque it has been pretty even with kings and queens winning the stakes event.
This year the queens dominated the race by finishing in the top four position of the race. JD Andromeda, a queen, of the Stidham & Stout Kennel looked to be the dog to beat with three wins in the preliminary rounds. But Riverview Stevie, a queen, of the Hardison & Rader Kennel surprised everyone coming out of the box on top and straight to the finish to be named the 2011 King & Queen Champion. In second place, was the second top point getter of the preliminary rounds, I Got The Luck of the Iowa Racers Kennel. I Got The Luck broke out of the box towards the back of the pack and then worked thru the trouble in the 1st turn to battle it out in the stretch with Superior Date for second. Superior Date, also a queen, of the Oxbow-Trow Kennel kept up with the leaders to the stretch but was outdueled for second and ended up in third place by a nose.
