Gulf's Greyhound of the Week

Historically, Gable Gulf Kennel, LLC has raised some of the fastest greyhounds gracing the oval in La Marque, Texas as well as throughout the country. It is time to add another name to that list as Gable Go Shaunee earns this week’s Greyhound of the Week honors.

It was clear from the start that this 61 pound speedster bred out of Gable Diego – Gable Pimiento was something special winning her first two races in grades M and J after winning both of her schooling outings. The journey into grade C was very rough, as Gable Go Shaunee could not achieve the lead in those three races and dropped back into grade D. The drop in class proved to be beneficial as Gable Go Shaunee rolled to a 13 length victory in her first ever sub-30 second time (29.87). After that spectacular effort, Gable Go Shaunee quickly climbed the grade ladder winning three out of her next five races to reach the Gulf’s top grade AA.

There was a strong welcoming party for Gable Go Shaunee into grade AA as the field on Saturday evening August 6 included top grade winners TNJ Super Dog of Big Water Kennel, KB’s Lights Out of K-Rod Kennel and wins leader Cry Homer of LQK Kennels, Inc. Drawing the difficult #6 post position for the second consecutive race, Gable Go Shaunee needed a fast start against this talented field. Once the 550-yard starting box opened, the yellow blanket worn by Gable Go Shaunee claimed the early lead by one length just clearing ahead of TNJ Super Dog. As the race progressed, Gable Go Shaunee continued to extend the gap between herself and her rivals finally winning by four lengths stopping the timer in a career best of 29.76 seconds.

The next start for Gable Go Shaunee would be in the first half of the mandatory payout of the Tri-Super on Thursday evening August 11. Standing in her way to another victory was future Hall of Famer, Rough Hustle of D.Q. Williams Kennel, and C Ya Fuzzy Navel of LaRosa Enterprises. Several greyhounds battled for the lead into the first turn but Gable Go Shaunee had enough speed to clear her competitors to take control of the race. Heading down the backstretch, Rough Hustle tried to catch up with this emerging superstar but had to settle for second best on this night as Gable Go Shaunee sprinted away to a four length victory breaking the 30 second barrier for the third consecutive occasion with a 29.81 second effort.

Many eyes will be focused on this pup as Gable Go Shaunee’s fast start consists of a record totaling 13/8-0-2-2. Congratulations to owners Harlyn and Janna Goebel, trainer Cheryl Warrender and this week’s star of the show, Gable Go Shaunee.
