Sanford's Friday Night Hot Box - Sept 30th Race 6
Sanford Orlando's Friday Night Hot Box is Race #6:
This week’s race features another fine field. Here is a quick rundown on the contenders:
As a note - Runners 1 - 4 are all going for their 3rd in a row.
#1 LNB Shuru’s Luck - is coming off a box to wire win on Monday afternoon - she is more of a midtrack runner so we will see how she likes the 1 box.
#2 Belle Lengai - is coming off big grade A win that saw her crossing the line with 11 1/2 lengths to spare.
#3 Lil Rounds Go - won last week’s race with a huge closing effort in the stretch.
#4 Kiow Grand Gun - has been on fire since arriving at SOKC in his first six starts.
#5 Fuzzys Nike - is coming off big grade A and loves the middle of the track so this could be a good box for him. He also has the fastest time of the field.
#6 Nitro Pedro - has a ton of late speed and the best speed rating of the field at 106.
#7 Chasmo’s Spud - a former “Hot Box” winner really likes the outside post. He won easily out of this box his last time out.

What is more important. Handicapping or wagering?
This may be the easiest question I have ever answered about playing the greyhounds. Wagering is by far the most important thing that will affect your profit and ROI.
If I were in a contest that required me to place wagers on handicappers and who would do best over time, I would bet all my money on the modest handicapper with outstanding wagering skills over the worlds best handicapper with poor wagering skills. How important is wagering? I'll give you a real life example from today. I had a member of my pro greyhound training site ,
Third Round Time - Future Stars - Dubuque
The young pups hit the track again this afternoon in the third round of the Future Stars at Dubuque Greyhound Park.
Three stakes races are on the 15-race card. The Future Stars run in the 10th, 12th and 14th.
The points leader, Mamas Special Ed, has the 5 box in the 12th. He's won both in the stakes, and four in a row. The brindle male has won 16 of 27 in Dubuque.
Three are tied for second: Mamas Gary Lam (12th race, 3 box), Time Released (12th race, 6 box) and O Ya Rose (12th race, 2 box).
As you can see, that 12th race will be a special one. It could distribute the points in a way that would allow some of the lower-placed greyhounds a chance to move up with a win.
The top eight in points advance to Saturday night's final.
$60,000 Bluffs Run Open semifinal
By Steve Sigafoose Mon, Sep 26, 2011
A thrilling dual in the last of the three semifinals on Saturday, Sept. 24, set the field for the $60,000 Bluffs Run Open.
Highlighting the last semifinal was the battle between track win leader, Slatex Emerald (Harlan Brothers), who was already in the final with 45 points, and L’s Fray (Boeckenstedt). L’s Fray, the track’s August Greyhound of the Month, had work to do with only 34 points.

NGA - Flying Coal City Under Pressure
The fourth and final rounds of the Fall Sprint will be held Wednesday night September 28th. Abernathy kennel’s Magic Bagels was pulled from the race forcing a seven-dog field in the semifinal. Point leaders USS Gazillionair (Raines) and Craigie I Am Jak (Campbell) each with 40 points drew in the seven-dog field that also has the majority of the high point-getters. The sixth race not only features the top dogs; it also features the defending champion Flying Coal City (McAllister). Known, as "the coal train" McAllister’s defending champion will be under pressure to perform. Flying Coal City will enter the semifinals as the eighth highest in points with 26. He must turn in a stellar performance to defend his title on October 1. Five females and ten males will produce this year’s stakes finalists after the Wednesday night semifinals.
From Orange Park - Dynamic Trio
There is always great racing and great greyhounds at the Orange Park Kennel Club, but right now three superlative greyhounds have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. One over the 660 yards course and the other two and taking command at 550 yards.

Quite The Litter
They are siblings, and it doesn't look like there's too much of a rivalry. Plus, they are in the final 24 of the Future Stars at Dubuque Greyhound Park.
Mamas Lady Gaga, Mamas Pastorjoel, Mamas Special Ed and Mamas Gary Lam are from Stan's Big Flyer-Greys Blue Cloud. And, they've been running well here.
Special Ed sits atop the leaderboard - and the win standings. Gary Lam is in a three way tie for second, Pastojoel has 24 and Gaga has 20 points. The siblings are in the Sweetcorn City Kennel, and are trained by Bob Rider.
After Wednesday matinee's round three, all of them could be in Saturday night's final.
The stakes races Wednesday are 10, 12 and 14.
Here is a kennel breakdown (11 of the 14 are represented):
* Sweetcorn CIty: 4.
* Iowa Racers: 4.

Gulf Greyhound Kennel of the Week - Lingle
It only makes sense that the more starts that a kennel has, the more opportunities the greyhounds have to win races. This week, Lingle Kennel trained by David Lingle, supported that theory using 68 starts to earn the Kennel of the Week honors by a slight margin over this year’s top kennel, Gable Gulf Kennel, LLC. With those 68 starts, the pups achieved 13 wins, 4 seconds, 11 thirds and 16 fourth place finishes earning $6,819.84 in purse money. Leading the way were top grade winners DLT Traitorsplan and DLT Armageddon.
Gulf's Greyhound of the Week: back to back - Gable Warbucks
There is a saying, if it is not broken, do not change a thing. Well, Gable Warbucks continues to be one of the hottest greyhounds at Gulf Greyhound Park winning three consecutive top grade AA contests and keeping the Greyhound of the Week honors for back to back weeks.
On Saturday evening September 10, Gable Warbucks did something uncharacteristically by breaking to the early lead from the #5 post position. As mentioned before, Gable Warbucks typically closes from the back of the pack so when the #5 black racing blanket emerged quickly on top, the race was over. The ending result was an impressive nine-length victory in a career best time of 29.65 seconds.

USS Gazillionair seeks threepeat in Fall Sprint qualifiers
Add caption |
By Vera Rasnake Fri, Sep 23, 2011
The third round races are featured Saturday night September 24 in races six and ten. Both races are full of top talent. USS Gazillionair (USS Raceway x Greys Torrington)who is the only undefeated athlete in the series faces off with round two winners Sand Cloud and AHK Colormegone in the sixth. Gazillionair is owned by Lester Raines of WV and Ron Wiltse of KS. Also in the race is the current win leader JW Titleist, who just missed by a head in round two. The lethal Craigie I Am Jak is also in the race and is sure to put on a show that will begin in the backstretch. Manicotti Manny is seeking a fifth consecutive quiniela finish in the top grade and will really be tested in this field. Venus Espinosa and Flying Carne will need some luck to score top points against their impressive rivals.
USS Gazillionair undefeated in Fall Sprint
By Vera Rasnake Fri, Sep 23, 2011
The second round of the Fall Sprint saw streaks halted and upsets score Wednesday night. Only one of the four first round winners scored a back to back victory. Lester Raines kennel’s USS Gazillionair’s driving win earned him a second set of win points in race eight. Gazillionair (USS Raceway x Greys Torrington) blemished Aerial Battle’s perfect win record since Battle’s return. Aerial Battle was going for five in a row. Gazillionair was last year’s Fall Juvenile champ and this year’s Rotary Governor’s winner shown in the photo.
D’Arcy kennel’s Sand Cloud (Kiowa Sweet Trey x Dreamy Blossom) went box to wire holding off the late pressure of JW Titleist by a head to score the top points in race four. Sand Cloud also halted Titleist’s streak at three in a row. Sand Cloud paid $10.80 to win. Race six saw the defending champion Flying Coal City (Kiowa Sweet Trey x Flying Crestline) take the lead in the homestretch and pull away by five at the wire in 30.54 for McAllister kennel. Magic Bagels and Craigie I Am Jak came from far back to finish second and third, respectively.

comment | His name may say Indiana, but this fine red male spent his professional days racing around the track in Alabama. He never moved up the alphabet in ratings, but what does that matter once you get him home? Soon after you welcome Joe into your family, you’ll be giving him all A’s in pet ratings. |

YMCA Pet Day
Greys Shine at Collierville YMCA Pet Day
$60,000 Open Second Round
by Steve Sigafoose 9/20/11
Keeping it in the family, Slatex Emerald and Slatex Vincent share the lead at the halfway point in the qualifying for the $60,000 Bluffs Run Open after the second round Saturday, Sept. 17.
The pair are the only greyhounds to win in both rounds for a maximum of 30 points. They are in good shape. Traditionally, it has taken 40 points to qualify for the final of a stakes race at Bluffs Run.
Slatex Emerald (Harlan Brothers) came from second in the homestretch to win by a length. The victory pushes Emerald’s track-leading record to 42-30-5-2.
Gulf's Greyhound of the Week: Gable Warbucks
Gable Gulf Kennel, LLC and owner Harlyn Goebel have provided Gulf Greyhound Park some of the fastest greyhounds ever to race on the La Marque, Texas oval. This week’s Greyhound of the Week, Gable Warbucks, continues the historic tradition for this year’s top kennel by winning two consecutive top grade AA efforts.
Gable Warbucks (Gable Wyatt – RJ’s B Dog) started his racing career in April with a bang winning his first two races in grades M and J. In fact, the journey through the grading ranks did not last long as Gable Warbucks reached the Gulf’s top level of competition in a mere nine starts over the 550 and 660-yard distance courses.

Southland's Saturday hotboxes
David Blair Kennel's Bella Infrared, Northshore's Kelsos Blackburn and Mike Harris Kennel's RCK Shawnee were the respective winners of three feature races over three different distances at Southland on Saturday night.
Bella Infrared, the heavy favorite, demolished his opposition by 12 lengths in the 5/16 event, giving the son of Kiowa Mon Manny-Bella Ionic five wins in his last six starts. He's now 26-3-4 in 37 starts at Southland this year.
In the 3/8 feature 16th race, John Kelly's Kelsos Blackburn stopped the win streak of track record holder Tiger Boy, who was going for his eighth straight victory. Blackburn's win, in a quick 36.71, pushed the season record of the son of Trent Lee and Kelsos Sleeveen (littermate to Kelsos Fusileer) to 4-3-0 in 15 outings. Tiger Boy finished second in the race.
In the 703-yd. feature Grade AA 18th race, RCK Shawnee, owned by Roger Lee Knauf, won by 2 1/2 in 39.97, nudging his record to 8-2-3 in19 starts. Second was favorite Mistie Bassi, who had won four of her last six and 16 of 39 going into the race.
Derby Lane Fall Sprint Round #2 Wednesday Night
The first round of the Fall Sprint is in the books. Capabal kennel’s outstanding sprinters JW Titleist who is the current win leader and the undefeated Aerial Battle 2010 Matinee Idol winner scored top points for the kennel. Lester Raines’ 2010 Fall Juvenile winner USS Gazillionair and Campbell Greyhound Racing’s Craigie I Am Jak were first round winners.
Race four kicked off the series with Peak Performance rocketing out of the box. He went "paw to paw"with USS Gazillionair until the backstretch. Gazillionair pulled away from Peak and took charge to score the top points. Peak’s wide stretch was costly forcing the male to finish sixth. Manicotti Manny closed for second along with Flying Carne that improved throughout for third. Lonesome Jeremy completed the superfecta. Kentucky Fire, Peake Performance, Freethrow Jordan and Rosebelle finished fifth through eighth.
Craigie I Am Jak was the betting favorite in race six that did not disappoint over last year’s stakes defender Flying Coal City. Jak gave an incredible performance as he was last in the turn and first at the wire. His come from behind win was sensational and jammed up the video archives as fans rewatched the male score the victory. Scooter Wagz enjoyed a brief early lead before Hi Noon Rage stole the front and gave a winning performance until being overtaken in the homestretch by Jak. Coal City was pinched early and rallied from a sixth place to finish second followed by Venus Espinosa and Hi Noon Rage completing the superfecta. Fifth through eighth went to Hallo Sangira, AHK Colormegone, Wannabeacowboy and Scooter Wagz.
No surprise in race eight as the track win leader JW Titleist, who was featured in the St. Petersburg Times Saturday, broke on top and pulled away from the field to win his 13th race in 19 starts. Titleist boasts 19-13-2-1-2 for the meet. Storm Rush also raced impressively as the dual-distance female rallied from last to a blazing second in the homestretch. Sovereign Gold was third and KB’s Spin To Win finished fourth. Hi Noon Rogue, Mesa Backstop, Wink For Pink and Gonewild Brady completed the field in that order.
Aerial Battle was the betting favorite in the tenth race, which wrapped up the first round. The male shot out on top leaving the field in his wake to clock a sizzling 30.47-the fastest first round time. Aerial Battle was arguably a Team II All-American who could make his nay sayers take another look at the undefeated star. Sand Cloud was also a favorite with Battle and scored the second place points followed by M’s Glaze Fancy, Magic Bagels, Kiowa Lazy Lazy, Backwood Cody, TMC’s Pistol and Sing In Church in that order.
The second round is Wednesday night September 21. The field will be sliced to 16.
A Look Back by Gary Dura
Well, if there was one thing I noticed in Saturday night's first round of the Future Stars, was that early speed was holding on.
Boc's Mumbojumbo was the only pup that rallied for a win during the Dubuque Greyhound Park's stakes event.
Superior Crown carried the fastest time of the night, with a 30.78. He wasn't threatened the entire race.
Hug N Dodgem, an 11-1 long shot, was the biggest win payoff.
Now, the question: Will early speed hold up again in the second round Friday night? That's one of the questions handicappers will need to consider for each of the six races.
The third round is Wednesday, Sept. 28, and features the top 24 in points. The top eight in points advance to the finals on Saturday night, Oct. 1.
Here were the winners: Hug N Dodgem, Superior Crown, O Ya Rose, Boc's Mumbojumbo, Mamas Special Ed and JW's Tia Marie.

Six-Pack for Deli Dee
By Kelly Clark Thu, Sep 15, 2011
Untouchable! Kiowa Deli Dee is the hottest greyhound going at the racetrack right now! Back over the 660 yard course, Deli Dee's break has returned and that has been bad news for the competition. She has been rocketing to the lead at the start of her races and no one has even been close. Not only is she winning, but she has been dominating in her efforts.
The funny part of this story might just be how this streak started in the first place. Normally known as a breaker, Kiowa Deli Dee came out well behind closer Really Gonnarock on August 20th. Sure she looked like she was going to finish in the money, but winning, no way. Too bad no one told her about it. She drove with each and every step she took to the wire and ran down a late speed greyhound at the finish line. It really was the best effort I have seen in her entire career at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Since she has not been denied the front end again and no one has even come close to beating her. With six straight wins in a row, she is clearly the best at the racetrack over the added distance course right now.

Congratulation to the Connell Kennel, Owner Kay Smith, Trainer Kelly Rowell, and all of her other connections on some superior efforts here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.
Check her out on Saturday Evening September 17th in the 15th race as she tries to keep the streak alive in her hunt for her 7th win in a row.

ST. PETERSBURG — When Patty Byers delivered her Daytona Beach dogs to Derby Lane, she also brought desire and determination.
Her Alabama Racing kennel was a former powerhouse at the track on Florida's east coast, winning 11 consecutive championships. But Byers knew patience would be equally important for her first St. Petersburg booking. Following a personal-worst start to a meet, Byers has seen her stock pick up the pace, with 22 of her 65 dogs winning races.
Gulf's Kennel of the Week - Gable Gulf Kennel, LLC
After an extended week of exciting greyhound racing with the addition of the special Labor Day matinee performance, the battle for the Kennel of the Week honors was very competitive with seven kennels eclipsing the $5,000 mark in purse earnings. When it was all and done, Gable Gulf Kennel, LLC rose above the rest of the kennels for the third consecutive week to earn the weekly top honor. It was definitely a numbers game as Gable Gulf Kennel, LLC and trainer Cheryl Warrender used 74 starts to accomplish 9 wins, 10 seconds, 8 thirds and 12 fourth place finishes earning $5,840.58 in purse money.
Gulf's Greyhound of the Week - Ponda'sTrey
Ponda's Trey
For this week’s honors, we turn towards a new face from Premier Enterprises, Ponda’s Trey. After beginning his racing career only three months ago, Ponda’s Trey has made a quick impression possessing the rail running, early speed style that has historically meant success for many greyhounds at Gulf Greyhound Park.
Spotlight - L's Fray
L'S FRAY
L's Fray is the greyhound of the month for August at Bluffs Run. She did it by winning four races out of four starts. She races for the Boeckenstedt Kennel.
9th Round of the $60,000 Kennel Championship
by Steve Sigafoose 9/7/11
The Boeckenstedt Kennel got enough points to jump into the lead of the $60,000 Kennel Championship at Bluffs Run following the ninth round on Saturday, Sept. 3.
Boeckenstedt’s greyhounds scored only 27 points, but that was enough to take a 288-283 lead over Bean & Stout. For the second straight round, Bean & Stout struggled, scoring only 12 points.
Leading Boeckenstedt was August’s greyhound of the month, L’s Fray, who finished second in a Grade A race, and Boc’s Provoker, who was second in a Grade C race.
