Gulf's Greyhound of the Week - Atascocita Ester

Atascocita Ester
It was a monumental week for Atascocita Ester of Libby Racing Kennels winning her first two top grade AA races in back-to-back fashion to earn this week’s Greyhound of the Week honors.

For the most part, the running style of Atascocita Ester favors the outside portion of the racetrack and has shown the flexibility to win on the lead and come from behind after stalking the pace. The 60-pound fawn female bred from Dodgem by Design – Atascocita Barb began her career in July 2011 with two third place efforts before graduating from the maiden class with a front running victory on July 13.

Atascocita Ester steadily worked her way up the grade ladder during the remainder of 2011 and her crowning achievement before this week’s grade AA wins occurred on January 27, 2012 with a career best performance of 29.94 seconds in a grade A contest.
On Wednesday February 15, Atascocita Ester secured her first career top grade victory by claiming the early lead and would not be challenged on the way to a four-length win in 30.19 seconds ahead of race favorite Golddust Hades of D.Q. Williams Kennel.

Seeking a repeat performance on Saturday afternoon February 18, the task at hand would be more difficult beginning from post #5 and dealing with a muddy racing surface. After breaking reasonably well, Atascocita Ester secured a good striking position in the middle of the pack around the first turn. Once again using the middle of the racetrack, Atascocita Ester circled the leaders at the top of the stretch driving home one length in front at the wire ahead of strong closing Bob’s Skeeter of LaRosa Racing Kennel.

With the two consecutive top grade victories, Atascocita Ester holds a career record of 30/8-7-5-2 landing on the pay sheet 73% of the time. Congratulations go out to owner Atascocita Racing, trainer Cam Hawkins and Atascocita Ester for her landmark achievement this week.
