Gulf's Greyhound of the Week - Palm City Pancho

Palm City Pancho
The crew from Libby Racing Kennels and owner Randy Doubles will be smiling for the second consecutive week. After Palm City Pelton drew the spotlight last week, Palm City Pancho picked up the slack winning back-to-back grade AA contests to earn the Greyhound of the Week honors.

The 80-pound red male bred from Dodgem by Design and KB’s Annabella made a brief appearance in Wheeling, West Virginia to begin his career with two unsuccessful starts in September of 2011. The debut on the Texas Gulf Coast was a winning occasion on February 4, 2012 as Palm City Pancho used his wide running style to run away with a 9-½ length stomping of maiden competition.
A troublesome fourth place finish in grade J followed but Palm City Pancho quickly righted the ship with another come from behind victory by three lengths on February 15.

After a third place finish in his next start in grade C, trainer Cam Hawkins moved Palm City Pancho to the longer 660-yard course. Throughout the month of March, Palm City Pancho gained valuable experience and slowly improved each time out over the next seven starts finally earning a well deserved trip to the winner’s circle for his first victory over the 660-yard course on March 30. Palm City Pancho remained on the backside until the middle of June earning two more victories before returning to the shorter 550-yard course on June 20 in triumphant fashion by the narrow margin of a neck in grade A.

Saturday evening June 30 turned out to a great experience for Palm City Pancho who uncharacteristically broke well and found himself in the early battle for the lead. After a little bumping around the first turn, Palm City Pancho held his position in second place to chase race leader Slatex Locust of Bone Man Racing Kennel down the backstretch. With a sweeping move around the far turn, Palm City Pancho took control of the contest and raced away to his first career top grade AA win by four lengths.

Friday evening July 6 would be the next opportunity for Palm City Pancho drawing the #2 blue blanketed post position. Maneuvering his way through early traffic, Palm City Pancho found himself in his preferred outside portion of the racetrack in third place for the run down the backstretch. Race leader JIT Gig Em of Bone Man Racing Kennel yielded the lead to Baby I’m The Won of Lingle Kennel around the far turn resembling a game of `hot potato`. With a quick acceleration, Palm City Pancho provided a thrilling finish and came flying to the wire to win by ½-length over Baby I’m The Won and his second consecutive grade AA victory.
